We live in a wonderful time where we can photograph almost every part of our lives. First days of school, birthdays, holidays, Saturday mornings at home, family adventures and all those funny little everyday moments can be captured within seconds.
But there’s a downside too.
So many of our memories end up buried in our phones.
We take the photograph, perhaps share it with family or post it on social media, and then it slowly disappears amongst thousands of other images in our camera roll.

Our phones are incredible at capturing everyday life.
But think about what usually happens afterwards.
We take dozens of photographs at an event, save hundreds more throughout the year and tell ourselves that one day we’ll organise them.
Then life happens.
A few months later, we’re scrolling through thousands of images trying to find that one photograph we vaguely remember taking.

I absolutely understand why families want digital photographs.
They’re convenient.
They’re easy to share.

Digital photographs certainly have an important place.
But I don’t believe it needs to be a choice between digital images and printed photographs.
They serve different purposes.
Digital files give you convenience.
Printed photographs give those memories a physical presence in your life.
The photographs that matter most deserve to escape the camera roll.

Look around your home for a moment.
Is there a wall where you could picture your family?
Now imagine walking past that photograph every day for the next ten years.
The children in it will grow.
Your family may change.

That’s the wonderful thing about photography.
