Preparing for a newborn photoshoot can ensure that you get the most out of the experience and that you end up with beautiful, memorable images. Here are some tips to help you prepare:

  1. Choose a trusted photographer: Research photographers and be sure to look through their portfolios to find one that specialises in newborn photography and has experience working with babies, ensure that you like the style of the images captured.
  2. Get in touch with your preferred photographer to book in your session as early as possible.
  3. Schedule the shoot: Newborn photoshoots are best captured when your baby is 5-14 days old, as they tend to be sleepy and more curly during this time. If. you have missed this window don’t despair, most photographers can capture the newborn look up to around the 6 week mark.
  4. Schedule your shoot in advance and let your photographer know if you have any specific requests or concerns.
  5. Plan your outfits: Consider coordinating outfits for your family and make sure that everyone is comfortable and dressed appropriately (we take care of baby….so just the rest of the family). Classic neutrals always work well. Avoid bright colors, patterns, and logos as they can be distracting in the photos. Your photographer may have a wardrobe available for use.
  6. Feed your baby just before you leave home for the shoot: The photographer will aim to ensure your baby is calm for the photoshoot, we begin shooting once we know baby is fed and relaxed.  If you use formula, you should bring enough for a couple of feeds with you.
  7. Pack the essentials: Bring extra nappies, wipes, and any comfort items (e.g., a blanket, pacifier) that your baby may need.
  8. Relax and enjoy: The most important thing is to relax and enjoy the experience. Your photographer will guide you and help you to create beautiful images that you will treasure for a lifetime.
